Art is so important for student growth. For HUMAN GROWTH! When kids are involved in creation, they are using hands-on experiences to make connections. Kids learn how to problem solve, they learn persistence, and they gain a sense of accomplishment.
“Art is an irreplaceable way of understanding and expressing the world,” says National Endowment for the Arts chairman Dana Gioia.
My philosophy as an art teacher is to provide Park View students with experiences where they can learn valuable life skills, feel successful and happy, and grow as individuals. The Art Room should be a place where they feel happy and at home. This is OUR space to create and have fun. My greatest days are the ones in which I see students entering the room with HUGE smiles on their faces, ready to learn and create. I want them to enter thinking "YAY!" To enjoy the process of art and well as the product they create is fundamentally important. I want them to leave wanting more, wishing Art could last longer, and to not be able to wait until it happens again. I want them to gain essential skills that will last a lifetime. I want them to learn that creating something feels good and brings inner peace.
