First Grade Art!
First Graders have been reading POP-UP Books in Library. We decided that creating them would even more fun, so we began coming up with a topic. "I'm Thankful" was the perfect way to make a POP-UP book come alive. We carefully wrote our letters. Learning about block and bubble lettering was very cool. We also talked about things we are very thankful for.
Instead of toys and video games, our thoughtful first graders said things like:
FAMILY FRIENDS SAFE HOMES GREAT SCHOOL FOOD PETS MORTON GROVE

watercolor Robots
Wow, did we have fun creating these! First Graders were able to use all they knew about shapes and apply that knowledge to Robot drawing. We also talked about the design principal of MOVEMENT. After some metallic and regular Sharpies, kids went watercolor crazy, and created beautiful and whimsical Robot friends. The backgrounds were also done in a grid-style, to stay with the shape and tech theme.
