"Falling Backwards Into Space"
This epic piece of fun teaches perspective in an amazingly cool way. We talked a lot about the concept of perspective and how big objects appear small when far away and small objects appear HUGE when close up. Well, if you were falling, the last part of your body to leave would most likely be your hands....(grabbing at anything that would be available) and your feet (trying desperately to stay put). So our sketching began....
We actually traced our shoes and our hands first. We knew they were going to be the biggest objects in the frame, and we wanted our perspective to show that. Our shoes could be designed any crazy way, which was LOTS of fun. We shaded our hands and drew the many interesting lines that appear on our palms.
For our next sessions, the skill to review was OVERLAPPING! We had to draw the bodies that were partially covered by our hands and feet. It was challenging for sure. One of the best parts of the projects was filling in all of the fun background images using watercolors. Great Project!

Foxes in the snow4th graders loved using their iPads to see tutorials on "How to Draw a Fox." The foxes chosen ranged from easy to difficult. Some liked the cartoon style, others preferred a more realistic approach. The rules were as follows: 1) Foxes needed to be Orange, Black, and White 2) The snow needed to be shown in artwork 3) The sky needed to be colorful 4) Watercolors would be used We used snowy glitter for added texture and vibrance. It was VERY well received! |

Super Hero Self Portraits
How SUPER ARE THESE?
4th Graders had the MOST AMAZING ideas for their Super Hero Self Portraits. We considered this project a MIXED MEDIA because it involved watercolor painting, construction paper for silhouette cities, and collage for comic words like POW and ZOOM! These kids were truly SUPER at creating SUPER HEROES!!!
